Best new car deals for April

April is the quietest month of the year for new-car sales — but it's still a good time to pick up a bargain if you shop wisely.

Families generally are away on holidays rather than kicking tyres and many dealers are exhausted from pushing cars out the door in March, historically the second biggest month as it's the end of the Japanese financial year.

Japanese brands account for six of the Top 10 so competition is keen and other makes have to sharpen their deals to stay in the race. That's why, in a roundabout way, April is still a buyer's market.

The brands and dealers that didn't make their sales targets last month want to make up for lost ground.

Market leader Toyota is under attack from all fronts, posting its third monthly decline, and is still trying to clear Camry sedans it reported as sold in December.

It has limboed to a new low for the latest model: $26,990 drive-away.

After selling out of the Corolla Ascent auto at $21,990 drive-away last month, Toyota has switched back up to the $23,990 deal on the Corolla Ascent Sport.

When you see a deal that appeals, better grab it because it might not be there next month.
Meanwhile last month's top-seller, the Hyundai i30, sticks to its unbeatable $19,990 drive-away deal — it's a good car at a great price.

The only thing that comes close is from sister brand Kia. Its Cerato sedan and hatch are still great buying at $19,990 drive-away with auto.

The Cerato gets front and rear sensors rather than a rear camera as in the Hyundai does but it comes with an industry leading seven-year/unlimited kilometre factory warranty.

So, though deals abound, it's worth noting they can chop and change from month to month because the discounts are funded by the manufacturers, based on varying calculations. When you see a deal that appeals, better grab it because it might not be there next month.
