When the reps roll out a shopping trolley and aim it directly at the car's front door, the potential for trouble rises quicker than Donald Trump's approval rating.
But Citroen keeps calm because this car has "bubbles".
Officially they are called Airbump panels but everyone at Citroen Australia uses "bubbles" as shorthand at the press preview of the all-new compact SUV called Cactus. A quirky car from the French company that put the quirk into its cars before most of the population was born, the Cactus adds a roof-mounted airbag and windscreen washers that squirt from the ends of the wipers.
But the Cactus is making a splash with its signature Airbump panels, designed to protect it from the cut and thrust of shopping centre carparks.
Don't try this (trolley stunt) at home. Or at your local supermarket.
Citroen believes the special plastic panels are just about indestructible — the Cactus on shopping trolley torture duty has already survived more than 100 side-on impacts.
Just in case, or in case an owner gets tired of the colour of the Airbumps on the Cactus, a full replacement pack costs less than $1500. Individual panels start from less than $120 and an owner can swap them at home.
"But, please, don't try this (trolley stunt) at home. Or at your local supermarket," says Citroen spokesman Tyson Bowen.
